Seminar: Merging the New School with the Old School (Kaf Adventures)
November 15, 2016 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
We’ve all been there at some point: Turned around, confused, or totally lost! If you’ve ever wanted to expand your navigation prowess beyond map and compass techniques, come join us for this navigation seminar. We will be focused on learning how the technology of today can supplement the skills and tools we are already familiar with. Topics include helpful websites and current apps for smartphones.
Previous experience with navigation techniques is helpful, though everyone is welcome! Students should bring a map, compass, and a smartphone if possible
Instructor: Paul Taylor is a Portland based lead guide/instructor for Kaf Adventures, where he also serves as the Oregon Program Director. Over the course of his 14-year career, he has worked as an instructor, facilitator, guide, and guide trainer for numerous outdoor education companies and guide services across the United States. His deep love of wild places and a passion for teaching have been a driving force in his professional and personal pursuits. His early adventures were focused on primitive living skills and long distance hiking, where he has racked up over 10,000 miles of trail-time, including thru-hikes of the AT, PCT, and many other trails. More recently, he moved to Portland with his wife, Claire, in the fall of 2013, where his attention has been focused on teaching and guiding in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and the Cascade Range. He is an AMGA certified Single Pitch Instructor, AMGA Alpine Apprentice, EMT-B, WFR, LNT Master Educator, and is AIARE level 2 certified. When he’s not teaching or working, he enjoys trail running, mountaineering, ice climbing, reading, and travelling with his wife.
